Hydraulic Capacity Assessment & Master Planning

Underscore Projects undertook a sitewide sewer capacity assessment for Melbourne Airport, covering the gravity network from the terminals to the property boundary. The engagement involved hydraulic modelling of a complex, multi-catchment airport precinct to assess existing performance and forecast infrastructure requirements across the airport’s long-term growth horizon, including reconciliation of survey data, calibration of demand models against metered consumption, and development of a network model across terminal, hangar, warehousing, hospitality and operational land uses. The findings informed master planning for future terminal expansion, with recommendations covering operational adjustments and staged long-term infrastructure upgrades.

Underscore Projects assessed the hydraulic capacity of the airport’s gravity sewer network from the terminals to the property boundary. The work reconciled survey datasets, derived demand models calibrated against water consumption and flow meter records, and built a steady-state sewer model across the precinct’s diverse catchments. The assessment tested network performance under peak wet weather conditions across the airport’s planning horizon and recommended a staged programme of operational adjustments and infrastructure upgrades to support future terminal expansion and master planning.
